Anti-bullying Policy

Policy Last Updated January 2025.

Statement:

Ballyfermot Gaels is committed to creating a supportive environment where all forms of bullying are unacceptable. We take a whole club approach, aligned with the GAA’s Code of Best Practice in Youth Sport.

Definition:

Bullying means repeated aggression verbal, psychological, physical, or Online by an individual or group targeting someone else.

Aims:

- Ensure everyone knows bullying is unacceptable.
- Deal promptly with bullying incidents.
- Foster a culture where it’s okay to tell and seek help.

Reporting and Response:

- Report concerns to the Club Children’s Officer.
- The Officer will confidentially assess the report and act if needed.
- Bullying is treated as a breach under “Give Respect - Get Respect.”
- Actions may include mediation, parental involvement, disciplinary action, or referral to the County Designated Person.

Roles & Responsibilities:

- Players: Report bullying; support targets; treat each other with respect.
- Coaches/Parents/Volunteers: Model respect and intervene early.
- Children’s Officer: Oversees incidents, liaises with parents and county personnel.
- Club Committee: Ensures policy visibility, training, and review.

Cyber Bullying:

Recognised as bullying; guidelines include saving evidence, blocking the bully, and reporting immediately.

Whole Club Approach:

Everyone from juvenile players to Coaches/Mentors are responsible for upholding an “it’s okay to tell” ethos at the club.
